Loox5 Getting Started: Understanding Color Types and Temperature

Posted by Andrew Flannery on 13th Oct 2023

Selecting the appropriate color temperature to achieve your desired tone is an important aspect of optimizing your lighting system. It can often be challenging to navigate the complexities of matching your vision with the right lighting for spaces like kitchens, bedrooms, or offices. Fortunately, the Loox5 system simplifies this process, by providing a color temperature chart on each light strip and puck light product page to provide an accessible breakdown of choices.

Color temperature is measured in Kelvins (shown as K) and refers to the warmth or coolness of the light. Monochrome features a set color temperature you choose during purchasing and cannot be changed. Multi white and RGB products allow users to manipulate color temperature any time via remote or phone control.

Illuminance, or lux (abbreviated as lx), is the measure of light intensity. It is measured on a number scale, and the charts measure out intensity lost as distance is drawn, shown in millimeters. The higher the color temperature chosen results in a more intense illuminance.

Task lighting is lighting ideal for desk work, reading, and cooking. We recommend a range of 500-1000 lx with the lighting fixed at about 15-20 inches (or 380mm-500mm) over the surface of your workspace. Puck lights, such as this one, provide a concentrated 80° angle of light, perfect for task lighting.

Ambient lighting provides general lighting for rooms with the ability to create different tones, perfect for multi white or multicolored lighting. Ranging around 100-500 lx, ambient lighting is ideal for bedrooms, hallways, staircases, and offices.

Adding Color to Your Space

Monochrome lighting features a permanent color temperature to illuminate your space. When purchasing, select the light's warmth or coolness in the color temperature option. Enjoy monochrome in your cabinet, pantry, bedside, and kitchen.

Multi White offers adjustable color temperature allowing you to customize the ambiance of a room from warm to cool white. Easily manipulate tones with a smartphone or Loox5 Connect Mesh Remote Control via Bluetooth. Multi white is ideal for creating dynamic and adaptable lighting environments to suit different moods and activities.

RGB is an acronym standing for Red, Green, and Blue, but features the full spectrum of colors. RGB enables vibrant and customizable lighting effects in homes, offices, computer setups, and more. Utilize smartphones and Loox5 Connect Mesh Remote Control to change and control colors. Choose a range of tones from subtle pastels to vivid hues to create accent lighting or captivating visual displays. Please note that RGB lighting products cannot output multi white colors.

Connecting Color Lights to Your Lighting System

To seamlessly integrate multi white and RGB lights into your lighting system, it's important to have the right Loox5 hardware. If you already have or are planning to use a standard distributor, utilizing RGB and multi white adapters will allow color lights to be added to your system. RGB and multi white compatible distributors are also available to directly connect light strips and pucks without a need for an adapter.
